SUMMARY:Dallas County recorder Open House
DESCRIPTION:RECORDER NOW HAS ALL RECORDED DOCUMENTS\n\nDATING BACK TO 1850 AVAILABLE ONLINE\n\nDate: September 26\, 2017 Contact: Chad C. Airhart\n\nchad.airhart@dallascountyiowa.gov\n\n515-993-5804\n\nAdel\, Iowa Since taking office in 2011\, County Recorder Chad Airhart has been on a mission to make\n\nDallas County more efficient\, not only for the functions of government\, but also for his constituents. Recently\,\n\nAirhart and his staff completed a major project making the Dallas County Recorder's office more efficient.\n\nWith the completion of this project\, searching records in Dallas County just got a whole lot easier. In the past\n\nto search for recorded documents\, you had to drive to Adel and come into the Recorder's Office. This could\n\nbe a laborious effort searching through old heavy record books. Today\, with Cott Systems\, the Recorder's\n\nsoftware system\, the public can access millions of recorded public records 24/7 from anywhere with an\n\ninternet connection.\n\nThis has been a multi-year project\, that now has indexed and imaged records back to the late 1960s\, and\n\nhistoric records imaged on a historical records webpage back to Dallas County's first recorded record book in\n\n1850. All of these records can be searched\, viewed\, and printed from anywhere.\n\nRecorder Airhart said "Every day the Recorder's staff is faced with challenges to satisfy the requests of the\n\npublic. With the completion of this project\, we can provide better and more efficient service\, saving us and the\n\ncustomer time and money." The Recorder's Office processes more than 25\,000 documents a year. Additionally\n\nthe Dallas County Recorder issues thousands of vital records\, registers vehicles not designed for the road\n\n(snowmobile\, boats & ATVs) for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and serves as a passport\n\nacceptance facility for the U.S. State Department. "We have advanced the office technologically with the\n\naddition of software from Cott Systems\, and this has helped us to improve our processes to do more with the\n\nsame amount of staff\, efficiently accommodating the needs of one of the fastest growing counties in America."\n\nWhile the public sees greater access to records there are also other benefits of this projects completion. The\n\ncounty now has a complete digital library of all of its records\, so in the event of a disaster where physical\n\nrecords might be lost\; there will be a continuity of government in the Recorder's office\, uninterrupted due to\n\nrecord loss. Additionally\, because the physical record books will no longer be needed in the Recorder's\n\nphysical space\, they can be moved to offsite storage\, saving much needed valuable space within the courthouse\n\nwhere the Recorder's office is located.\n\nDallas County\, Iowa\n\nHon.
